Agriculture and food among the fields of cooperation to develop between Cuba and Mongolia.

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. May 2, 2019. Mr. Ulaan Chultem, the new Minister of Agriculture, Food and Light Industry of Mongolia, received today the Ambassador of Cuba, Raúl Delgado Concepción, in a meeting in which they reviewed the main aspects of the cooperation in agricultural and animal husbandry that could be developed between the two countries. Also present at the meeting were the Director General of the Department of Coordination and Implementation of Livestock Policy Mr. Batmunkh Damdindorj, the Director General and Chief Veterinary Officer Mr. Tumendemberel D., and the Head of the International Cooperation Mrs. Munkhtuvshin Byambasuren.

Among the topics discussed in the meeting was the interest of the Mongolian side in the extensive use in the Mongolian fields of BIORAT, a Cuban bio-rodenticide produced by the company LABIOFAM S.A., for the control of mouse pests. The Ambassador pointed out the possibility of the use in Mongolia of other products of this Cuban company such as bio-larvicides and products for animal health in Mongolian agriculture and livestock. He also reiterated the Cuban proposal to conduct joint investigations for the use of vaccines against foot-and-mouth disease in cattle that will allow Mongolia to alleviate this dangerous disease which affects the mass of cattle in several provinces of this nation.

Minister U.Chultem expressed his intention to create a ministerial commission for the implementation of what was agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Labiofam SA and that institution regarding the application of BIORAT in the more than 645 thousand hectares infected with field rodents that are causing extensive damage to the pasture crop for livestock in Mongolia.
