For several weeks, the U.S. government has been conducting a new smear and discrediting campaign against Cuba from Washington, as part of its increasing hostile policy towards our country. This campaign is promoted in the face of the failed political attempt to subdue Cubans through the strengthening of the economic blockade, the measures to deprive us of fuel and the proved resilience of our people, who enthusiastically celebrates the 500th anniversary of their capital city.

The United States uses as a pretext the detention of the counterrevolutionary José Daniel Ferrer, an agent paid by and at the service of the United States, who has a long record of actions against public order and legality.

The United States Embassy in Cuba has been the main vessel to handle, guide and finance the conduct of José Daniel Ferrer, as a clear manifestation of the interference in the internal affairs of Cuba and a blatant incitement to violence, disturbance to public order, and contempt to law enforcement agencies by this citizen.  The Chief of this diplomatic mission personally conducts this effort.

It is known that instead of devoting herself to promoting bilateral ties, ensuring the interests of the U.S. people and her government and boosting peaceful relations among the states, the U.S. diplomatic mission in Cuba and its Chargé d’Affairs in particular has focused in the last months on the failed purpose of recruiting mercenaries, promoting division and confusion in our people, identifying the areas of the economy that can be the target of coercive measures, and attempting to slander and discredit the management of the Cuban government and the Revolution.

As it is usually the case, lies used by U.S. government officials is a main ingredient for this campaign.

José Daniel Ferrer was detained on October 1st after a Cuban citizen filed a suit against Ferrer and three other individuals, wherein he accuses them of having abducted him for an entire evening and beating him to the point that he had to be hospitalized.

Ferrer awaits trial. He has been visited by his wife and children, in line with the procedures for his legal situation. All references to his physical disappearance, the alleged physical abuse, torture or him not getting sufficient food are mere lies, which are deliberately fabricated and oriented by the U.S. government and its Embassy in Havana. He has received due medical assistance, he exercises regularly, and upon his request, he is facilitated religious assistance.

It should be known that before his activities at the service of the United States government, José Daniel Ferrer had a criminal record that included violent behavior, which had nothing to do with any political motivation whatsoever. He has records that date back to 1993, and they include violent physical aggressions to other citizens, women included, and public order crimes, a behavior that has increased in recent years.

There is sufficient evidence of all this.

It is no news that the U.S. government uses people with these characteristics for their subversive political activities against Cuba and for conducting discrediting campaigns with the unscrupulous support of mass media.
