The Ambassador of Cuba to the United Kingdom, Bárbara Elena Montalvo Álvarez, participated today in the online launch of the book We are Cuba by British academician Helen Yaffe. We are Cuba offers an analysis of the last 30 years of the Cuban revolutionary process and how the Cuban people has survived the post-Soviet Union era.
The diplomat congratulated the author and highlighted that, despite her youth, Yaffe has become a referent academician in the UK for Cuban topics. Likewise, the Ambassador thanked the honesty with which the author conducted this project.
“This book will be a must-read for those who want to know, and above all, understand, how Cuba was able to survive and face the special period as well as to understand why, under the dramatic circumstances we are living today, we remain optimistic of our ability to overcome any challenge and to continue our project,” said the diplomat.
Montalvo concluded stressing that “Cuba is Continuity” is not just a slogan; it is a sense of life. The present is a continuity not only of the immediate past, but of all the history that precedes us.”
The Counsellor of Press, Arístides Hechavarría, and the Counsellor in Charge of Consular Affairs, Lidice Vegueria, were also present.
