Mick Whitley, British Member of Parliament for Birkenhead in North West England, has formally nominated Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade to receive the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. Mick is the forth British MP to formally nominate the Brigade alongside fellow MPs Grahame Morris, Navendu Mishra and Rachel Hopkins.
In his submission to the Nobel Prize Committee Mick said that he believed Cuba’s medics deserved the award
“for their humanitarian work and for their outstanding contribution to health in many of the poorest countries of the world.”
Mick said
“Both in Britain’s National Health Service and across the world, healthcare workers have worked extraordinarily hard, over such a difficult year. In the past few months I have been particularly moved by the thousands of Cuban healthcare workers, travelling around the world to support their fellow medics in the struggle against COVID-19. I am delighted to have been able to formally nominate the Henry Reeve medical brigade for the 2021 Nobel peace prize”
