London, 13 January, 2021.- Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom Bárbara Montalvo Álvarez attended this afternoon an online event organized by the Cuban Solidarity Campaign local group in Merseyside, England.
Montalvo gave an up-to-date presentation of the country’s efforts to tackle the COVID-19, and praised Cuba’s health system which allows to sustain all other health programs. She highlighted that 85.1% of all diagnosed cases have recovered, and that only 3.6% of them had to be admitted to critical care units.
The diplomat condemned Cuba’s inclusion in the list of countries sponsors of terrorism, calling it cynical and politically motivated. She also denounced the most recent unilateral sanctions imposed by the Trump Administration against Cuba.
During the event, issues related to the performance of the economy in 2020 were addressed, as well as the challenges that the country will face this year, particularly the implementation of the currency unification.
