Meeting with the Cross-Party Group of Scotland

London, March 15, 2021. - The Ambassador of Cuba to the United Kingdom, Bárbara Elena Montalvo Alvarez, participated this afternoon in a virtual meeting with the members of the Scottish Parliament's Cross-Party Group of friendship with Cuba, which held its last meeting shortly before the start of the election campaign in Scotland.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to bid farewell to the member of the Scottish Parliament and Coordinator of the Cross-Party, Elaine Smith, who is standing down from her parliamentary activities. 

The Cuban deputy, Oden Marichal, sent a recorded message in which he thanked Elaine, on behalf of the National Assembly of the People's Power, for her important contribution to the movement of solidarity with Cuba in the United Kingdom.

Ambassador Montalvo, on her part, highlighted Elaine's efforts in making the Cuban reality known, her contribution to the strengthening of relations between Scotland and Cuba, to the fight for the release of The Cuban Five and especially her support for the lifting of the blockade. She also gave an update on the national situation, summarized the numerous unilateral measures imposed by the government of Donald Trump throughout his term of office; and recalled the upcoming presentation of the Cuban resolution against the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, which will take place during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.
