The first day of the largest graduation in the history of the Fidel Castro - Nelson Mandela Program, which began in 1996, was held.
On December 9 and 10, at the University of the South African province of Limpopo, the graduation of 1 292 South African students, who were studying Medicine in Cuba, will take place thanks to this Medical Training Program.
The ceremony is attended by South African health authorities chaired by the South African Minister of Health, Joe Phaahl, teaching authorities from the Cuban Ministry of Public Health and a delegation from the Cuban Embassy in the country.
In the opening remarks, the South African Minister of Health, Dr. Joe Phaahla congratulated the students, recognized the good results of the Nelson Mandela-Fidel Castro Program and thanked Cuba for sending the Henry Reeve medical brigade to South Africa to combat the pandemic.
These graduates are among the thousands of students who have benefited from the Program and will be placed in South African hospitals in the most remote locations with the greatest shortage of physicians in the country.
The medical training in Cuba of students from the countries that request it is a project that confirms Cuba's commitment to the protection, both inside and outside the Island, of the main human right, the right to life.
