The National Assembly of Seychelles announced today the decision to reactivate the Seychelles-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The news was announced through the website of the legislative body, after the Cuban Ambassador, Martha Hernandez Caneiro, held a meeting with the members of its Foreign Affairs Committee last week.
During the meeting, the Minister Counselor of the Cuban diplomatic representation, Tomás Méndez Parra, made a detailed presentation about the National Assembly of People's Power of the Republic of Cuba, the work of the International Relations Committee and its links with other Parliaments of the world.
Both parties highlighted the long-standing fraternal relationship between their peoples and governments and agreed that they share common interests, which will undoubtedly contribute to the growth of mutual collaboration in areas such as health, sports, education, environment and inter-parliamentary relations.
In this regard, the Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Honorable Wavel Woodcock, thanked the Cuban Embassy for the help and support that Cuba has provided and continues to provide to Seychelles, especially in the area of health, where Cuban doctors now provide direct medical care to a population of just over 98,000 habitants.
For her part, the Cuban ambassador took the opportunity to acknowledge and express her gratitude for the actions and declarations of support for our country against the blockade by the National Assembly of Seychelles during the previous legislature.
The decision to reactivate the Parliamentary Friendship Group was unanimously approved and comes just a few days before the 44th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Seychelles and Cuba, to be celebrated on April 12.
