Obama announces an end to preferential treatment of Cuban migrants
This January 12, the White House published a statement by outgoing U.S President Barack Obama on the ending of the so-called “wet-foot/dry foot” policy and the Cuban Medical Professional Parole Program, both of which offer preferential treatment to Cuban migrants, encouraging unsafe and disorderly migration.

Cuba reduces infant mortality rate to 4.3 in 2016
Cuba reduced its infant mortality rate to 4.3 per thousand live births in 2016, thus staying among the best countries in the world in this health indicator, according to Minister of Health Roberto Morales.
Minister Morales said Cuba closed the year with improvements in the main sanitary indicators and the child-mother program, while life expectancy continued to grow. He added that conditions were created to replicate these results in 2017.
HH the Emir sends Congratulations to President of Cuba
Doha, January 01, 2017.-HH the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani sent Sunday a message of congratulations to President of the Republic of Cuba Raúl Castro on the anniversary of his Country's Independence Day.
Also on the same date were sent greeting messages to the President of the Republic of Cuba, Raúl Castro Ruz by His Highness, the Deputy Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
