Cuban ambassador participates in celebration for Portuguese Language Day in Cyprus.
Nicosia, Cyprus, May 5, 2026.- The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, shared this Tuesday, together with counterparts from the accredited Diplomatic Corps in this capital and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, a cultural evening on the occasion of the celebration today of World Portuguese Language Day.
Jointly organized by the diplomatic representations of Brazil and Portugal in Nicosia, the ceremony featured emotional remarks from the excellencies Ms. Ana Maria Bierrenbach and Vanda Maria Dias Stelzer Sequeira, Ambassadors of Brazil and Portugal to Cyprus, respectively, who acknowledged the global significance of this date, officially recognized since May 2009 as "World Portuguese Language Day."
The day was established since then by the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP)—an intergovernmental organization officially associated with UNESCO since the year 2000—which brings together those nations that have the aforementioned language as one of the essential elements of their common identity, the one that allows them to share not only its use as a means of communication but also the wealth encompassed by their respective Lusophone cultures.
