Cuba is giving world an example of solidarity – Lula

The Mast, 27 March 2020. FORMER Brazil president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva says the Cuban government and its people are giving the world an example of solidarity.

In a letter to Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Lula said he was writing to express the emotion he felt upon seeing the image of Cuban doctors arriving in Italy to help the victims of the coronavirus pandemic in that country. Lula said it was in times of crisis that people came to know the truly great. “Once again the government and people of Cuba are giving the world an example of solidarity, overcoming all barriers, be they economic, geographical or political in nature,” Lula said.

32 Anniversary of Cuito Cuanavale.

March 23, 2020, marks the 32th anniversary of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale. That remote town of Angola became a symbol of resistance and courage, after the victory of Angolan, Namibian, South African and Cuban combatants, against the army of the opprobrious Apartheid regime.

Cuban Doctors Head to Italy to Battle Coronavirus

HAVANA — Communist-run Cuba said it dispatched a brigade of doctors and nurses to Italy for the first time this weekend to help in the fight against the novel coronavirus at the request of the worst-affected region Lombardy. The Caribbean island has sent its "armies of white robes" to disaster sites around the world largely in poor countries since its 1959 revolution. Its doctors were in the front lines in the fight against cholera in Haiti and against ebola in West Africa in the 2010s.

Last March 13, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland requested from the Cuban authorities that MS Braemar, a member of the Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, be authorized to dock in a Cuban port and that its passengers, a small number of which have been affected by the novel coronavirus (SARS CoV 2/Covid-19), be cleared for repatriation by air.
