Brussels Meeting of Representatives of Member States of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter Accredited to the EU - Joint press release

A meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations was held on 27 May 2026 in Brussels at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the European Union with participation of Heads of Missions / representatives of respective Diplomatic Missions accredited to the EU. Discussions regarding the issues and subjects treated by the Group in this format in Brussels were launched in April 2023 with the aim to contribute to the work of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter in New York, Geneva and Vienna.

The meeting was focused on the topic “Current threats to multilateralism”. In this regard, its participants addressed confrontational policies of certain governments, including unilateral coercive measures, neocolonial practices, judicial aggression that undermine stability and peaceful development of sovereign states as well as the architecture of equal and indivisible security and right of peoples to own independent path of development. The need to respect all principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interconnection was underlined.

Participants of the meeting discussed a number of specific initiatives aimed at shaping peaceful coexistence in the emerging multipolar world, agreed to further continue constructive discussions on topical international issues.
