El gobierno de EE.UU. está aprovechando con fines oportunistas y de manipulación política lo que parecería un gesto humanitario.
En el marco del intenso esfuerzo de recuperación que de inmediato se inició en Cuba a raíz del paso del huracán Melissa por el territorio nacional el 29 de octubre de 2025, y de la asistencia solidaria que también llegó desde el primer momento, el gobierno de EE.UU. proclamó la intención de enviar ayuda humanitaria.
Han pasado 77 días. El 14 de enero, el Departamento de Estado de ese país comunicó públicamente que una parte de la ayuda llegará a territorio nacional. En ningún momento, ha habido comunicación oficial del gobierno de EE.UU. con el gobierno de Cuba para confirmar tal envío.
Ha sido la Iglesia Católica cubana la que se ha dirigido a las autoridades del país con la información de que la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de EE.UU. tenía la intención de ser el canal para enviar a Cuba asistencia material que aportaría el gobierno estadounidense.
Como principio, Cuba no se opone a la asistencia procedente de gobiernos u organizaciones, siempre que beneficie al pueblo y no se utilicen las necesidades de los damnificados para lucrar políticamente bajo el disfraz de gesto humanitario.
La contribución que provenga por cualquier vía se recibe, organiza y canaliza en Cuba a través de las autoridades gubernamentales que tienen ese encargo oficial y con la participación de organizaciones, como la Iglesia Católica y otras, con probada trayectoria en este tipo de procesos.
Cuba acepta esta donación sin condicionamientos y entendiendo que es un gesto del pueblo de EE.UU. quien sustenta, con sus contribuciones los fondos públicos que emplea el gobierno.
La asistencia material procedente de EE.UU. por esta vía será destinada, como es obvio, a los damnificados y las comunidades perjudicadas, si bien ella representa una fracción del esfuerzo del pueblo y el gobierno cubano y de la ayuda recibida de diversas partes del mundo, incluyendo organizaciones de EE.UU. no asociadas con el gobierno.
El Departamento de Estado podrá seguir mintiendo sobre Cuba, pero no podrá alterar los hechos.

Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The US government is exploiting what appears to be a humanitarian gesture for opportunistic and politically manipulative purposes.
In the context of the intense recovery effort that began immediately in Cuba following Hurricane Melissa's passage through the country on October 29, 2025, and the solidarity assistance that also arrived from the outset, the US government announced its intention to send humanitarian aid.
Seventy-seven days have passed. On January 14, the U.S. State Department publicly announced that part of the aid would arrive in Cuba. At no time has there been any official communication from the U.S. government to the Cuban government to confirm such a shipment.
It was the Cuban Catholic Church that approached the country's authorities with the information that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops intended to be the channel for sending material assistance to Cuba provided by the US government.
As a matter of principle, Cuba does not oppose assistance from governments or organizations, provided that it benefits the people and that the needs of the victims are not used for political gain under the guise of humanitarian gestures.
Contributions received through any channel are received, organized, and channeled in Cuba through the government authorities officially responsible for this task, with the participation of organizations such as the Catholic Church and others with proven experience in this type of process.
Cuba accepts this donation without conditions and understands that it is a gesture from the people of the United States, who support the public funds used by the government with their contributions.
Material assistance from the United States through this channel will obviously be directed to the victims and affected communities, although it represents a fraction of the efforts of the Cuban people and government and of the aid received from various parts of the world, including U.S. organizations not associated with the government.
The State Department may continue to lie about Cuba, but it cannot alter the facts.
