Cuba attends in the 44th Session of the FAO Conference

Rome, June 28, 2025.- The 44th Session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) began this morning and will run until July 4. The Cuban delegation is headed by Rodolfo Rodríguez Expósito, first deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG), and also includes Ambassador Mirta Granda Averhoff, permanent representative to the Rome-based Agencies; Alexander Miranda Caballero, director of Science, Innovation and Agricultural Extension at MINAG; and counselor Claudia González Toledo, deputy permanent representative of the Cuban diplomatic mission.

Under the central theme “Fostering Innovation for Food Security,” Member States will have the opportunity to exchange experiences, advance emerging solutions, and consolidate strategic partnerships that enable a comprehensive response to the challenges of hunger, poverty, and malnutrition. The general session will also include discussions on the current state of food and agriculture at the global level, among other issues, including outcomes from the regional conferences.

Several panels and side events will also take place. These initiatives pay special attention to South-South cooperation, youth engagement, financing in response to food crises, bioeconomy, crop diversity, forest resilience, antimicrobial resistance, and training of new generations of leaders.

The Conference will set FAO’s priorities for the next two years, legitimize its budget, and establish the global roadmap for food security, agricultural innovation, ecological sustainability, and nutrition.
