Cuba participates in FAO High-Level Ministerial Meeting

Rome, June 29, 2023.- Cuba participates in the FAO High-Level Ministerial Event on the theme: "Transforming agrifood systems to increase resilience and meet the 2030 Agenda. Harnessing the potential of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs)".

The event, which included four panel discussions, made it possible to highlight the potential of SIDS, LDCs and LLDCs, and to coordinate actions to support these countries in their efforts to transform their agrifood systems in the framework of the 2030 Agenda.

The Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba, Claudia González Toledo, reiterated the call to continue working together to respond to the common challenges of sustainable development and climate change, which particularly affect Small Island Developing States.

At the same time, she denounced how the imposition of unilateral coercive measures on developing countries, among other factors, undermines their capacity to advance in the recovery process and overcome current economic and social challenges.

"Cuba will continue to promote cooperation in various spheres and share its modest experiences in disaster risk reduction and confronting climate change," he said.

FAO Director-General QU Dongyu thanked the representatives of SIDS, LDCs and LDCs for their participation and renewed the call to strengthen regional and international engagement with these countries.
