Gaborone, May 11, 2026 – The Cuban Ambassador to Botswana, Antonio Luis Pubillones Izaguirre, this afternoon received five journalists from the digital and print media outlets El Panafricanista, Daily News, and The Botswana Guardian. He held a broad and lively exchange with them on various topics related to Cuban reality and Cuba–Botswana relations.
The meeting lasted more than two hours and focused mainly on the life and work of José Martí, Hero of the Republic of Cuba; the current and upcoming celebrations marking the centenary of the historic leader of the Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, next August; the escalation of imperialist aggression by the U.S. government against the Cuban people; the current state and prospects of cooperation and bilateral relations between Cuba and Botswana; as well as the activities planned from 2026 onward to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.
The gathering served to reactivate the Group of Friends of the Press, which from now on will work to keep the public in this brotherly Southern African country better informed about the true political and socio-economic reality of Cuba.
Those present expressed their commitment to work jointly with the Embassy in expanding the Group, aiming for a more coordinated and effective solidarity-based communication effort.
