Rome, may 6, 2023. - A Cuban delegation visited Rome from 2 to 6 May to hold important meetings at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The meetings, coordinated by the Office of Biodiversity and Climate Change of the Organization, focused on the achievement of an effective articulation of the environmental projects implemented in Cuba; the strengthening of the mechanisms of dialogue with a view to a better understanding of the processes and their greater effectiveness; the identification of potential technical tools that FAO has developed for their application in projects with environmental approaches in agriculture; and the prospects for promoting new collaborations.
Similarly, meetings were held with the Cuban Ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations based in Rome, Mirta Granda, with whom the status of the projects “Introduction of new agricultural methods for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, including plant and animal genetic resources, in productive landscapes in selected areas of Cuba” (COBIMAS) and "Increasing climate resilience of households and rural communities through the rehabilitation of productive landscapes in selected localities of the Republic of Cuba" (IRES) were updated.
The delegation was composed of Telce Gonzales, Director of Science, Technology and Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG); Wenceslao Carrera, advisor to the Designated National Authority of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment for the Green Climate Fund; Wilfredo Arregui, coordinator of the IRES Project of the Green Climate Fund of MINAG; Alfredo Socorro, coordinator of the COBIMAS Project of the Global Environment Facility of MINAG and Jorge Luis Fernandez, Programme, Operations, Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant of the FAO representation in Cuba. They were also accompanied by Claudia González and Gabriela Gámez, counsellor and third secretary for the multilateral affairs at the Embassy, respectively.
