Roma, 4 de Abril de 2022.- En acto oficial en la sede del Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA), la embajadora Mirta Aurora Granda Averhoff presentó al Presidente de este organismo especializado de las Naciones Unidas, Gilbert Houngbo, las Cartas Credenciales que la acreditan como Representante Permanente de Cuba.
En encuentro privado intercambiaron sobre las excelentes y fructíferas relaciones entre FIDA y Cuba, y se ratificó, la voluntad de continuar fortaleciéndolas.
La Embajadora ofreció una actualización sobre la situación en Cuba, que ejecuta 3 proyectos financiados por el FIDA, uno de ellos, el Proyecto de Desarrollo Rural Cooperativo en la Región Oriental (PRODECOR) en fase final, y destacó el compromiso de Cuba con el organismo.
La representante cubana informó sobre el proceso legislativo en curso que aprobará la Ley de Soberanía Alimentaria y Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional, que busca aumentar la producción agrícola y reducir la dependencia de las importaciones para garantizar el derecho a la alimentación sana y adecuada de la población.
Aprovechó para agradecer la respuesta del FIDA a la Nota del Secretario General de la ONU relativa a la Resolución A/RES/75/289 "Necesidad de poner fin al bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero impuesto por los Estados Unidos de América contra Cuba”, e informó sobre el recrudecimiento de esa hostil política en condiciones de pandemia y cómo impacta negativamente en el desarrollo de los sistemas alimentarios en el país.

Cuban Ambassador presents Letters of Credence to the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
Rome, April 4th, 2022 – In an official ceremony at the headquarters of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Ambassador Mirta Aurora Granda Averhoff presented to the President of this specialized agency of the United Nations, Gilbert Houngbo, the Letters of Credence that accredits her as Permanent Representative of Cuba
In a private meeting with the President, the excellent and fruitful relations between IFAD and Cuba were discussed and the will to continue strengthening them was ratified.
The Ambassador gave an update on the situation in Cuba which is implementing 3 projects financed by IFAD, one of them, the Cooperative Rural Development Project in the Oriental Region (PRODECOR), in the final phase. The Ambassador also emphasized Cuba's commitment to the organization.
The Cuban representative reported on the legislative process underway in the country that will approve the Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security Law, which seeks to increase agricultural production and reduce dependence on imports to guarantee the population's right to healthy and adequate food.
She took the opportunity to thank IFAD for its response to the UN Secretary General's Note on Resolution A/RES/75/289 "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba" and reported on the intensification of this hostile policy under pandemic conditions and how it impacts negatively on the development of food systems in the country.
The Ambassador was accompanied by Gabriela Gámez Granda and Marcel Bernal Sandianes, members of the Cuban Representation to the International Organizations based in Rome.
