Ostende, 13 de septiembre.- Con el tema “Hands Off Cuba: Solidaires contre le blocus” y en el contexto de la segunda jornada de Manifiesta 2026 se celebró un debate dedicado a analizar la situación de Cuba, las consecuencias del bloqueo estadounidense y el papel de la solidaridad internacional en defensa de la soberanía de la Isla.
El encuentro reunió distintas voces vinculadas a la solidaridad con la Mayor de las Antillas y al movimiento progresista europeo e internacional, que compartieron experiencias y reflexiones sobre la realidad cubana y la necesidad de transformar la solidaridad en acciones concretas.
Liza Lebrun abrió el debate compartiendo sus experiencias en Cuba durante una brigada de solidaridad con Cubanismo, poniendo en valor el intercambio directo y el conocimiento de la realidad cubana como herramientas frente a la desinformación.
Por su parte, el diputado e historiador cubano Elier Ramírez abordó las consecuencias concretas del recrudecimiento del bloqueo sobre la población cubana, así como las medidas que impulsa el país para enfrentar las dificultades y seguir avanzando. En su intervención destacó la voluntad de Cuba de defender su soberanía y resistir las presiones externas.
Dita Toska, tras participar en una misión de investigación en Cuba, compartió sus impresiones y las situaciones que pudo constatar de primera mano, con especial atención al impacto del bloqueo sobre la vida cotidiana de la población cubana.
Desde Bélgica, el secretario general del PTB y diputado federal, Peter Mertens, reflexionó sobre el significado de Cuba para las fuerzas progresistas de todo el mundo y sobre la necesidad de pasar de las palabras a la acción frente al bloqueo. La solidaridad con Cuba debe traducirse en hechos, subrayó.
El periodista y analista Ignacio Ramonet puso el foco en la inspiración que Cuba continúa representando a nivel internacional y analizó la nueva estrategia de Estados Unidos hacia América Latina y el Caribe, vinculando la situación cubana con la defensa de la soberanía de los pueblos de la región.
Asimismo, Manolo de los Santos ofreció una mirada desde Estados Unidos sobre Cuba, el bloqueo y las voces que se oponen a estas políticas, destacando que la solidaridad con Cuba también encuentra espacios de crecimiento dentro de la propia sociedad estadounidense.
El debate puso de manifiesto la importancia de mantener y ampliar la solidaridad internacional con Cuba ante el recrudecimiento de las medidas coercitivas estadounidenses. Las intervenciones coincidieron en señalar que defender a Cuba es también defender el derecho de los pueblos a decidir libremente su propio camino.
“Hands Off Cuba” se convirtió así en un espacio de encuentro, reflexión y compromiso, con un mensaje común: poner fin al bloqueo y fortalecer la solidaridad internacional con el pueblo cubano.

“Hands Off Cuba”: International Solidarity Against the Blockade and in Defense of Cuba’s Sovereignty
Ostend, September 13.- Under the theme “Hands Off Cuba: Solidaires contre le blocus” and as part of the second day of Manifiesta 2026, a debate was held to discuss the situation in Cuba, the consequences of the U.S. blockade, and the role of international solidarity in defense of the Island’s sovereignty.
The gathering brought together various voices connected to solidarity with the largest of the Greater Antilles and to the European and international progressive movement, who shared experiences and reflections on the reality of Cuba and the need to turn solidarity into concrete action.
Liza Lebrun opened the debate by sharing her experiences in Cuba during a solidarity brigade with Cubanismo, highlighting direct exchange and first-hand knowledge of Cuban reality as tools for countering disinformation.
For his part, Cuban MP and historian Elier Ramírez addressed the concrete consequences of the tightening of the blockade on the Cuban population, as well as the measures being promoted by the country to confront these difficulties and continue moving forward. In his remarks, he highlighted Cuba’s determination to defend its sovereignty and resist external pressure.
Dita Toska, following her participation in a fact-finding mission to Cuba, shared her impressions and the situations she was able to witness first-hand, with particular attention to the impact of the blockade on the daily lives of the Cuban population.
From Belgium, PTB Secretary General and federal MP Peter Mertens reflected on the significance of Cuba for progressive forces around the world and on the need to move from words to action in confronting the blockade. Solidarity with Cuba must be translated into concrete deeds, he stressed.
Journalist and analyst Ignacio Ramonet focused on the inspiration that Cuba continues to represent internationally and analyzed the new U.S. strategy towards Latin America and the Caribbean, linking the situation in Cuba to the defense of the sovereignty of the peoples of the region.
Likewise, Manolo de los Santos offered a perspective from the United States on Cuba, the blockade and the voices opposing these policies, stressing that solidarity with Cuba is also finding growing space within U.S. society itself.
The debate highlighted the importance of maintaining and expanding international solidarity with Cuba in the face of the tightening of U.S. coercive measures. The speakers agreed in stressing that defending Cuba also means defending the right of peoples to freely determine their own path.
“Hands Off Cuba” thus became a space for dialogue, reflection and commitment, united by a shared message: end the blockade and strengthen international solidarity with the Cuban people.
