Address by the Cuban Delegate during the Central Moment of ManiFiesta 2026
Good afternoon to everyone.
We are grateful for the opportunity to convey this message at a time of extraordinary complexity for Cuba. The siege and economic warfare imposed by successive United States administrations for more than six decades have intensified to unprecedented levels. The energy blockade is affecting essential services, and the blockade has become a form of collective punishment that causes suffering and deprivation. The Cuban people are today facing the humanitarian consequences of a criminal policy that seeks to suffocate us and break our resistance.
To justify the cruelty inherent in this genocide, Cuba is accused of being a threat to the security of the United States, when the world knows that Cuba is not, nor could it ever be, a threat to any country. The true reason for such perversity and hatred is that they cannot accept the rebellious spirit of a people unwilling to negotiate its sovereignty, unwilling to give up building its own destiny, unwilling to be intimidated by threats, and which has become an example—an “evil example” of dignity and heroism.
A dignity that can be seen in the joy of our children; in the dreams of a young generation that continues to place its hopes in a future in Cuba; in the courage of the women who work, conduct research, and provide for our families amid the harsh realities of everyday life at home. A dignity that remains intact, standing tall and defiant in the face of the worst adversity.
In this, the centenary of the birth of the Historic Leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, Cuban revolutionaries reaffirm our commitment to peace, anti-imperialism, socialism, solidarity, and internationalism.
We reaffirm our commitment to Fidel’s legacy, which should serve as a compass for those peoples who aspire to a better world, and which he himself defined as a world “without cruel blockades that kill men, women and children, young people and the elderly like silent atomic bombs”—a world that can only be the result of revolutionary struggle and construction.
Through this message, we express our profound gratitude to those in Belgium and in many places around the world who join forces to send Cuba resources of all kinds that help alleviate the hardships and limitations we are facing. These expressions of support that we receive reinforce the Cuban Revolution’s spirit of solidarity and altruism.
Nothing will bend our will to fight. Fidel warned:
“…Never has a people had such sacred things to defend, nor such profound convictions for which to struggle. Thus, it would rather disappear from the face of the earth than renounce the noble and generous work for which many generations of Cubans have paid the high price of the lives of many of their finest sons and daughters.”
They may deny us fuel; they may prevent us from accessing credit and raw materials; but they can never take away our right to dream and to continue building the project that we, as a people, have chosen.
The U.S. imperialism that despises us is incapable of understanding that our principles are not negotiable and that the Homeland is not for sale; that there are many of us who are willing to die defending it, with the profound conviction that Cuba will prevail.
