Bruselas, 23 de abril.- En una vibrante jornada de compromiso y solidaridad, la juventud tomó la palabra este jueves, 23 de abril, en la sede de la Universidad Libre de Bruselas (VUB) para rendir un sentido homenaje al Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz, en el marco de las celebraciones por el centenario de su natalicio.
Bajo el título "Cuba stood for the world, now the world must rise for Cuba", la conferencia se convirtió en un potente espacio de denuncia contra la agresiva política de bloqueo y asfixia económica de los Estados Unidos hacia la Isla. El evento contó con una asistencia masiva de más de 170 personas, mayoritariamente jóvenes universitarios, integrantes de COMAC, la organización juvenil del Partido del Trabajo de Bélgica (PTB/PVDA).
El panel de lujo que condujo el debate estuvo integrado por: Marc Botenga, Eurodiputado belga por el Partido del Trabajo de Bélgica (PTB-The Left); la Dra. Damarys Álvarez, Segunda jefa de la Brigada Médica Cubana que presta servicios de solidaridad en Calabria, Italia; el Dr.Salim Lamrani, reconocido intelectual, historiador y profesor franco-argelino y Octave Daube, Presidente de la organización juvenil COMAC.
Durante las intervenciones, se resaltó el ejemplo de resistencia de Cuba y la labor humanista de sus brigadas médicas, a la vez que se hizo un llamado urgente a la solidaridad internacional para que el mundo se levante en apoyo a la soberanía del pueblo cubano frente a las sanciones unilaterales.
La apertura del evento estuvo a cargo del Embajador de Cuba, Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, quien destacó la vigencia del pensamiento del líder histórico de la Revolución Cubana.
La jornada reafirmó que el legado de Fidel Castro sigue vivo en las nuevas generaciones, quienes ven en Cuba un referente de lucha por la justicia social y el derecho internacional.

Youth Raise Their Voices in Brussels in Tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro
Brussels, April 23.- In a vibrant day of commitment and solidarity, young people took the floor this Thursday, April 23, at the headquarters of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) to pay heartfelt tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, as part of the celebrations marking the centenary of his birth.
Under the title “Cuba stood for the world, now the world must rise for Cuba,” the conference became a powerful platform to denounce the aggressive policy of blockade and economic suffocation imposed by the United States against the island. The event drew a large audience of more than 170 participants, mostly university students and members of COMAC, the youth organization of the Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB/PVDA).
The distinguished panel leading the debate included: Marc Botenga, Belgian Member of the European Parliament for the Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB–The Left); Dr. Damarys Álvarez, Deputy Head of the Cuban Medical Brigade providing solidarity services in Calabria, Italy; M. Salim Lamrani, PhD, a renowned intellectual, historian, and Franco-Algerian professor; and Octave Daube, President of the COMAC youth organization.
During the interventions, speakers highlighted Cuba’s example of resistance and the humanitarian work of its medical brigades, while also issuing an urgent call for international solidarity so that the world may rise in support of the Cuban people’s sovereignty in the face of unilateral sanctions.
The event was opened by the Ambassador of Cuba, Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, who underscored the continued relevance of the thought of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
The day reaffirmed that Fidel Castro’s legacy remains alive among new generations, who see in Cuba a reference point in the struggle for social justice and international law.
