Medicare Fraud Allegations are New Slanders Against Cuba
Communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba
Recent statements made by some US Government officials speculate, without any evidence whatsoever, about the fact that the Government of Cuba could be involved in frauds targeting the US health care program Medicare in South Florida. This is a new slander fabricated by anti-Cuban sectors in that country.
Cuba has maintained a firm stance in rejection of this and other transnational crimes. This is something well-known by the Government of the United States, which has exchanged and coordinated with the Cuban Government the implementation of several joint actions on terrorism, legal assistance, commercial security, illicit trafficking in drugs, alien smuggling and migration fraud, cyber-crimes, money laundering and financial crimes. However, as a rule, there has not been a reciprocal behavior on the part of the US authorities.
Cuba has prosecuted several persons residing in our national territory who have been involved in US Medicare frauds. Likewise, through several bilateral mechanisms, the Cuban authorities have shared with and requested from the United States some information about persons linked to financial crimes and have required assistance for the return of Cuban citizens based in that country who have evaded the Cuban laws and are currently being indicted for this kind of offenses.
The US Government officials who are being quoted in these slanderous assertions are deliberately failing the truth.
The Cuban Government reiterates its willingness to jointly confront the transnational crimes originating in the US by means of a timely exchange of information.
