Motion against the Blockade of Cuba presented in the Australian Federal Parliament

Canberra, 26 February 2024. A motion against the U.S. blockade on Cuba was presented today for the first time in the Australian Federal Parliament. The document was registered by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the legislative body and Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, Ms. Sharon Claydon, and seconded by Mr. Warren Entsch also co-chair of the Friendship Group.

During the session, different parliamentarians from the Labor, Liberal and National parties presented solid arguments against the embargo, in particular the effects that this policy generates for the development of the Cuban people, its economy and human rights. The impact of the blockade on trade was also highlighted, particularly for Australians who want to invest in different sectors in Cuba.

The debate included statements on Cuba's work in the international scenery, mainly in the Cuban medical cooperation and the development of our health and educational system.

The Cuban Ambassador to Australia, Tanieris Diéguez and the Third Secretary Ivianes González were also present at the session.
