Gante, 3 de mayo.- En un ambiente de profunda hermandad y compromiso político, más de 150 personas se dieron cita este domingo, 3 de mayo, en la sede del sindicato ABVV en la ciudad de Gante, para participar en un "Brunch Solidario" en apoyo a la Revolución Cubana. El evento contó con la participación de integrantes del movimiento de solidaridad, cubanos residentes, militantes del Partido del Trabajo de Bélgica (PTB/PVDA), líderes sindicales y representantes de diversos movimientos sociales.
El debate principal estuvo integrado por un panel de lujo que analizó la actual coyuntura de la isla: Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, Embajador de Cuba, Marc Botenga, Eurodiputado por el PTB y Beatriz Campoalegre, cubana residente en Gante y una de las promotoras de la iniciativa "Maleta Solidaria".
Los panelistas expusieron el impacto devastador del bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero impuesto por los Estados Unidos y se denunció especialmente el cerco petrolero impulsado en los últimos meses por la administración de Donald Trump, calificado por los ponentes como “un acto criminal y genocida”.
"Este asedio no es solo una medida política; es un ataque directo al corazón de la familia cubana. El objetivo es asfixiar el desarrollo normal del país, golpeando sectores sensibles como la salud y la educación", enfatizó el diplomático cubano.
Durante el encuentro, se detalló cómo la persecución financiera y energética busca generar desestabilización social. Sin embargo, frente a esta política de hostilidad, el panel resaltó el valor de la resistencia del pueblo cubano y el respaldo inquebrantable de la comunidad internacional.
El Embajador Fernández Palacios aprovechó la ocasión para agradecer profundamente las muestras de solidaridad recibidas desde Bélgica y el resto del mundo. Destacó que iniciativas como la de los sindicatos y los movimientos sociales europeos son vitales para enfrentar este complejo escenario y romper el aislamiento mediático que se intenta imponer sobre la realidad de la isla.
La jornada concluyó con un renovado compromiso de los asistentes para fortalecer las acciones de apoyo a Cuba y seguir exigiendo el fin inmediato de una política que viola flagrantemente el derecho internacional.
Los fondos recaudados durante la actividad se destinarán a proyectos solidarios con Cuba.

The Movement for Solidarity with Cuba in Ghent condemns the intensification of the U.S. embargo
Ghent, May 3.- In an atmosphere of deep solidarity and political commitment, more than 150 people gathered this Sunday, May 3, at the headquarters of the ABVV trade union in the city of Ghent to participate in a “Solidarity Brunch” in support of the Cuban Revolution. The event was attended by members of the solidarity movement, Cuban residents, activists from the Belgian Workers’ Party (PTB/PVDA), union leaders, and representatives of various social movements.
The main discussion featured a distinguished panel that analyzed the current situation on the island: Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, Cuban Ambassador; Marc Botenga, MEP for the PTB; and Beatriz Campoalegre, a Cuban resident in Ghent and one of the promoters of the “Solidarity Suitcase” initiative.
The panelists highlighted the devastating impact of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, and they particularly denounced the oil embargo pushed in recent months by the Donald Trump administration, which the speakers described as “a criminal and genocidal act.”
“This siege is not just a political measure; it is a direct attack on the heart of the Cuban family. The goal is to stifle the country’s normal development by targeting sensitive sectors such as health and education,” emphasized the Cuban diplomat.
During the meeting, it was explained how financial and energy sanctions are intended to create social instability. However, in the face of this hostile policy, the panel highlighted the courage of the Cuban people’s resistance and the unwavering support of the international community.
Ambassador Fernández Palacios took the opportunity to express his deep gratitude for the expressions of solidarity received from Belgium and the rest of the world. He emphasized that initiatives such as those of European trade unions and social movements are vital to confronting this complex situation and breaking the media isolation that is being attempted to be imposed on the reality of the island.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from attendees to strengthen actions in support of Cuba and to continue demanding an immediate end to a policy that flagrantly violates international law.
The funds raised during the event will be allocated to solidarity projects with Cuba.
