estimados compatriotas:
Gracias por acompañarnos hoy y por convertir las calles de Bruselas en un espacio de dignidad y firmeza. En nombre del pueblo de Cuba y de los integrantes de nuestra misión diplomática, expreso nuestro profundo agradecimiento a las organizaciones belgas, a los amigos solidarios y a nuestros compatriotas que se sumaron a la iniciativa «Bélgica pedalea por Cuba».
Hoy, nos convoca un motivo entrañable: el centenario de nuestro Comandante en Jefe, Fidel Castro Ruz.
Así, rendimos tributo al estratega invicto, al arquitecto de un modelo social justo e inclusivo que durante décadas ha reivindicado el precepto martiano de una "República con todos y par el bien de todos", y al faro ético cuya visión internacionalista llevó médicos y maestros a los rincones más alejados del planeta.
Fidel n'appartenait pas seulement à Cuba ; sa pensée anti-impérialiste et sa foi inébranlable en l'être humain ont dépassé nos frontières pour devenir un symbole d'espoir et de dignité pour les peuples du Tiers-Monde. Son héritage demeure pleinement vivant dans chaque cause juste et dans la conviction que la souveraineté ne se négocie pas.
Nous pédalons également pour dénoncer le blocus criminel et illégal imposé par le gouvernement des États-Unis, une politique génocidaire qui s'est renforcée ces derniers mois par un féroce siège énergétique conçu pour asphyxier nos familles.
Esta agresión impacta directamente en la vida cotidiana de nuestro pueblo: hoy más de 98 500 pacientes —incluidos 12 000 niños— esperan por cirugías que se posponen por la falta de recursos y electricidad en los quirófanos; miles de embarazadas no reciben sus ecografías completas y más de 67 000 lactantes enfrentan interrupciones en su esquema de vacunación, lo que ha elevado dolorosamente la tasa de mortalidad infantil a más de 9,8 por cada mil nacidos vivos.
El impacto humano es devastador. Cerca de 118 000 pacientes oncológicos y miles con insuficiencia renal ven en riesgo sus tratamientos de quimioterapia y hemodiálisis, mientras el país apenas cuenta con un 30 % del cuadro básico de medicamentos debido a la negativa de navieras y al bloqueo de licencias financieras.
Ante esta hostilidad que busca rendirnos por necesidad, respondemos con la firmeza y el optimismo victorioso que nos legó el Comandante. Resistiremos y venceremos para preservar las conquistas de la Revolución y del Socialismo y para defender nuestro derecho a decidir nuestro propio destino, que es defender nuestra soberanía, nuestra independencia y nuestra dignidad.

Statement by Ambassador Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios at the Event Commemorating the Centenary of Fidel Castro and Condemning the Genocidal Blockade
Dear friends of solidarity,
dear fellow Cubans,
Thank you for joining us today and for turning the streets of Brussels into a space of dignity and resolve. On behalf of the Cuban people and the members of our diplomatic mission, I express our profound gratitude to the Belgian organizations, our friends in solidarity, and our fellow Cubans who joined the initiative “Belgium Cycles for Cuba.”
Today, we are brought together by a deeply cherished occasion: the centenary of our Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz.
Thus, we pay tribute to the undefeated strategist, the architect of a fair and inclusive social model that for decades has upheld Martí’s principle of a “Republic with all and for the good of all,” and to the ethical beacon whose internationalist vision brought doctors and teachers to the most remote corners of the planet.
Fidel did not belong only to Cuba; his anti-imperialist thought and his unwavering faith in human beings transcended our borders to become a symbol of hope and dignity for the peoples of the Third World. His legacy remains fully alive in every just cause and in the conviction that sovereignty is not negotiable.
We also cycle to denounce the criminal and illegal blockade imposed by the government of the United States, a genocidal policy that has intensified in recent months through a brutal energy siege designed to suffocate our families.
This aggression has a direct impact on the daily lives of our people: today, more than 98,500 patients—including 12,000 children—are awaiting surgeries that are being postponed due to the lack of resources and electricity in operating rooms; thousands of pregnant women are not receiving their full ultrasound examinations; and more than 67,000 infants are facing interruptions in their vaccination schedules, which has tragically raised the infant mortality rate to more than 9.8 per 1,000 live births.
The human impact is devastating. Nearly 118,000 cancer patients and thousands of people suffering from renal failure are seeing their chemotherapy and hemodialysis treatments placed at risk, while the country has barely 30% of its basic list of medicines available due to shipping companies’ refusal and the blockade of financial licenses.
Faced with this hostility, which seeks to bring us to our knees through deprivation, we respond with the determination and unwavering optimism that the Commander passed on to us. We will resist and we will prevail in order to preserve the achievements of the Revolution and Socialism and to defend our right to decide our own destiny—which means defending our sovereignty, our independence, and our dignity
