Rome, February 25, 2025.- Between February 25 and 27, 2025, the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity and its concurrent meetings will resume its sessions in Rome, Italy, following the suspension last November in Cali, Colombia, due to loss of quorum and lengthy negotiation processes for several of the main decisions to be adopted at the Conference of the Parties.
Main issues of discussion at this meeting are resource mobilization, including the financial mechanism, planning, monitoring, review and reporting, as well as the indicator framework, all of which are extremely important for the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Ambassador Mirta Granda Averhoff, Permanent Representative to the Rome-based international organizations, is chairing the Cuban delegation, accompanied by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the diplomatic mission, as wells as directors and officials of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA). They will also hold meetings with their counterparts from the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in order to expand bilateral cooperation in 2025.
