Hace más de sesenta años, Cuba se liberó del dominio de Washington y, desde entonces, ha seguido un rumbo independiente, marcado en particular por impresionantes inversiones en educación, sanidad y solidaridad internacional. La isla socialista es una espina clavada para el dominio estadounidense, ya que demuestra, de manera concreta, que es posible seguir otro camino.
Desde el principio, Estados Unidos ha tratado de estrangular a Cuba, en particular mediante un bloqueo ilegal y criminal que impide a la isla desarrollar el comercio, la inversión y los intercambios financieros. Este bloqueo es condenado cada año por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas por una abrumadora mayoría (solo Estados Unidos e Israel votan en contra) y ha costado a Cuba decenas, si no cientos, de miles de millones de euros desde su introducción en 1962.
A pesar del bloqueo, las sanciones y todos los intentos de desestabilización durante seis décadas, Cuba sigue en pie. Eso es lo que enfurece a Trump y a Marco Rubio, y por eso, como parte de su estrategia colonial para reconquistar el hemisferio occidental, vuelven a atacar a Cuba.
«Cuba es una nación libre, independiente y soberana. Nadie nos dicta lo que debemos hacer», respondió hoy el presidente Miguel Díaz-Canel. Tiene toda la razón. No le corresponde a Washington dictar la ley, ni en Cuba, ni en Caracas, ni en Bogotá, ni en Groenlandia, ni en ningún otro lugar.
Es hora de que Bélgica y la Unión Europea dejen de seguir los pasos del imperialismo estadounidense. Solidaridad con el pueblo cubano y con todos los que resisten.

Trump and his administration are once again targeting Cuba
More than sixty years ago, Cuba freed itself from Washington’s domination and has since pursued an independent course, marked in particular by impressive investments in education, healthcare and international solidarity. The socialist island is a thorn in the side of U.S. dominance because it demonstrates, in concrete terms, that another path is possible.
From the very beginning, the United States has sought to strangle Cuba, notably through an illegal and criminal blockade that prevents the island from developing trade, investment and financial exchanges. This blockade is condemned every year by the United Nations General Assembly by an overwhelming majority (with only the United States and Israel voting against) and has cost Cuba tens- if not hundreds - of billions of euros since its introduction in 1962.
Despite the blockade, the sanctions and all attempts at destabilisation over six decades, Cuba still stands. That is what infuriates Trump and Marco Rubio, and it is why, as part of their colonial strategy to reconquer the Western Hemisphere, they are once again attacking Cuba.
“Cuba is a free, independent and sovereign nation. No one dictates to us what we must do,” President Miguel Díaz-Canel responded today. He is absolutely right. It is not for Washington to dictate the law - neither in Cuba, nor in Caracas, nor in Bogotá, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else.
It is time for Belgium and the European Union to stop trailing behind U.S. imperialism. Solidarity with the Cuban people and with all those who resist.
