Special Declaration of the Heads of State and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean, (CELAC), gathered in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic, on occasion of its 5th Summit on January 25th, 2017:

1. Reiterating its commitment to multilateralism and to the principles enshrined in The Charter of the United Nations and International Law, including sovereign equality and territorial integrity of States;

2. Reaffirming the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted at its Second Summit in Havana on January 29th, 2014;

3. Reaffirming the Special Declaration on the return to the Republic of Cuba of the territory occupied by the United States Naval Base in Guantánamo, approved in the 4th CELAC Summit, on January 27th, 2016;

CELAC Summit closing statement

The Fifth Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States concluded in Dominican Republic with the adoption of a political declaration and a plan of action.
The Summit began with a minute of silence in homage to Fidel Castro, about whom the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, remarked: “Castro was one of the main promoters of the Community and a firm believer throughout his life in the dream of a region united in the path of progress”.

Presidente dominicano asegura Fidel, uno de los principales propulsores de la CELAC, fue «firme creyente del sueño de una América Latina unida»

24 de enero de 2017, República Dominicana— Los jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de América Latina y el Caribe guardaron un minuto de silencio por el fallecimiento del líder histórico de la Revolución, Fidel Castro, al dejar inaugurada en la noche de este martes la V Cumbre de la Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (Celac).

Proclama de América Latina y el Caribe como Zona de Paz

Las Jefas y los Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de América Latina y el Caribe, reunidos en La Habana, Cuba, en ocasión de la II Cumbre de la Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CELAC), celebrada los días 28 y 29 de enero de 2014, en nombre de sus pueblos e interpretando fielmente sus anhelos y aspiraciones,

Ratificando el compromiso de sus países con los Propósitos y Principios consagrados en la Carta de las Naciones Unidas y el Derecho Internacional, y conscientes de que la prosperidad y estabilidad de la región contribuyen a la paz y seguridad internacionales;

V Cumbre CELAC: unidad dentro de la diversidad

CUBA, 19 de enero de 2017.- La V Cumbre de la Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (Celac) tendrá lugar entre el 24 y el 25 de enero en Punta Cana, República Dominicana. «Cuba va a esa cita con la expectativa de que contribuya al fortalecimiento de la Comunidad fundada en el 2011 y por esa vía al de la unidad dentro de la diversidad», sostuvo este miércoles el vicecanciller Abelardo Moreno.
