"La Cultura nos salva", sentenció José Martí, el más universal de los cubanos. Con esta premisa Cuba emprendió el camino junto a la Oficina Regional de la Unesco en La Habana para conectar los lazos culturales comunicantes del Caribe y Europa a través del Programa Transcultura.
El Ministerio de Cultura y la Oficina del Historiador de la Habana, tuvieron a su cargo la coordinación de las actividades. La formación de capacidades en jóvenes artistas y emprendedores, el impulso a su desarrollo profesional y el apoyo a la rehabilitación del Convento de Santa Clara, fueron prioridades para la ejecución de los recursos humanos y financieros aportados por el Programa.
El éxito de esta iniciativa para Cuba se aprecia en los 807 beneficiarios entre 18 y 35 años, de los cuales el 56% fueron mujeres. Más de 290 jóvenes comprometidos en acciones de cooperación cultural. En materia educativa, se vincularon al programa 7 instituciones educacionales y fueron otrogadas 68 becas para la formación de capacidades en áreas de industrias culturales y creativas y emprendimientos.
Por otro lado, el Polo de formación cultural del Caribe, presidido por la prestigiosa Universidad de las Artes es, sin duda, uno de los resultados más hermosos del Programa.
Desde la música nos satisface la creación de la Banda Transcultura, integrada por jovenes músicos beneficiarios de este programa y dirigida por el reconocido pianista y compositor Roberto Fonseca, quien tiene a su cargo la dirección artística del Festival Internacional Jazz Plaza.
Para nuestro país Transcultura ha sido una experiencia de alta significación que se alineó con los principios y valores que promovemos en materia de relaciones diplomáticas y culturales con el Caribe y Europa. Reforzó el valor de la solidaridad, la cooperación multilateral, la integración, el intercambio, y la transferencia de conocimientos de manera horizontal.
Cuba se siente orgullosa de su participación en el programa desde sus dos vertientes y ratifica su compromiso con la sostenibilidad del Polo y la continuidad de las actividades del Programa. Agradecemos a la Unión Europea y la Unesco por la oportunidad de mostrar la experiencia desarrollada por Cuba y sus instituciones durante más de 60 años, en los ámbitos de cultura y educación.
Mantengamos juntos esta noble idea de hacer el bien por nuestra juventud. Impulsemos el desarrollo de nuestros desde el respeto a la diversidad cultural que nos distingue y al mismo tiempo, nos une. Salvemos la memoria de nuestros pueblos. Es también nuestro deber demostrar a las nuevas generaciones que un mundo mejor es posible.

Distinguished guests,
"Culture saves us," proclaimed José Martí, the most universal of all Cubans. With this premise, Cuba embarked on a journey alongside the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana to strengthen the cultural ties between the Caribbean and Europe through the Transcultura Programme.
The Ministry of Culture and the Office of the Historian of Havana were entrusted with coordinating the activities. The development of young artists and entrepreneurs, the promotion of their professional growth, and support for the rehabilitation of the Convent of Santa Clara were priorities in the implementation of the human and financial resources provided by the Programme.
The success of this initiative for Cuba is evident in the 807 beneficiaries aged between 18 and 35, 56% of whom were women. Over 290 young people were engaged in cultural cooperation activities. In the field of education, 7 educational institutions were involved in the programme, and 68 scholarships were awarded for capacity building in the areas of cultural and creative industries and entrepreneurship.
Moreover, the Caribbean Cultural Training Hub, led by the prestigious University of the Arts, is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable outcomes of the Programme.
In the field of music, we take pride in the creation of the Transcultura Band, composed of young musicians who are beneficiaries of this programme and led by renowned pianist and composer Roberto Fonseca, who also serves as the artistic director of the International Jazz Plaza Festival.
For our country, Transcultura has been a highly significant experience that aligns with the principles and values we promote in our diplomatic and cultural relations with the Caribbean and Europe. It has strengthened the values of solidarity, multilateral cooperation, integration, exchange, and horizontal knowledge transfer.
Cuba is proud of its participation in the Programme through both of its components and reaffirms its commitment to the sustainability of the Training Hub and the continuity of the Programme’s activities.
We express our gratitude to the European Union and UNESCO for the opportunity to showcase Cuba's experience and that of its institutions in the fields of culture and education, developed over more than 60 years.
Let us continue to work together on this noble idea of doing good for our youth. Let us promote the development of our nations with respect for the cultural diversity that distinguishes us and, at the same time, unites us. Let us preserve the memory of our peoples. It is also our duty to show the new generations that a better world is possible.
