Rome, October 13, 2025.- Deputy Minister of Agriculture Telce González Morera heads the delegation attending the World Food Forum, which will be held at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) until October 17.
The event provides an ideal opportunity to share Cuba's experiences in food sovereignty and nutrition education, as well as progress in implementing public policies aimed at strengthening local food production, despite the difficult conditions imposed by the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that has limited the country's development for more than six decades.
Likewise, during the high-level event: “Bridging investments and smallholder farmers for resilient coffee value chains”, national experiences in the development of this strategic sector will be presented.
On the occasion of FAO's 80th anniversary, the delegation will pay tribute to the organization's work and will highlight its historical support for Small Island Developing States and nations in the Global South with the aim of building fairer, more inclusive, and sustainable agri-food systems. In addition, participation in various side events is planned, focusing on the main global challenges related to the transformation of agri-food systems and climate resilience.
During his stay in Rome, the Deputy Minister will carry out an extensive work program that includes bilateral meetings with his Italian counterpart and business leaders from the agri-food sector. Deputy Minister is accompanied by Mirta Granda Averhoff, Permanent Representative to the Rome-based international organizations; Carlos César Torres Páez, Director of the Center for Management, Local Development, Tourism, and Cooperative Studies at the University of Pinar del Río (CEGESTA) and Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power; Carlos Martín Rodríguez, Director of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment; Santiago Pérez Castellano, President of the Agroforestry Group, Ministry of Agriculture, and Claudia González Toledo, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Diplomatic Mission.
