Cuba's National Drug Observatory: another example of cooperation with the European Union

Havana, July 4.- The National Drug Observatory of the Republic of Cuba was established as a tool to support the country's zero tolerance policy against the global scourge of drugs. The launching ceremony was headed by the Minister of Justice, Oscar Manuel Silvera Martínez, who highlighted the importance of the work of the Observatory as a support tool for decision-making on drug policies in the country.

The ceremony was also attended by Francisco Tierraseca, Director of the Foundation for the Internationalization of Public Administration (FIAP), Pablo Benitez Jiménez-Ugarte, Chargé d'Affaires of the EU delegation in Cuba and Borja Díaz, Director of the Cooperation Program between the European Union and Latin America on Drug Policy (COPOLAD).

During the event, the main results of the technical assistance of the COPOLAD program with Cuba were reviewed, thanks to which it has been possible to create the Observatory, which is an additional example of the cooperation links between the European Union and Cuba. These links are based on the Mechanism for Coordination and Cooperation on Drugs CELAC-EU (MCCMD) and the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba (ADPC).

The Cuban Embassy in Belgium and Mission to the European Union was represented at the event by First Secretary Bryan Gual Navarrete, who serves as Cuba's representative to the MCCMD Technical Committee.
