Ottawa, August 18, 2021.- Yesterday afternoon, 1,920,000 syringes arrived in Cuba to support the vaccination campaign and the fight against COVID-19 in the country and were received by representatives of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and the Ministries of Public Health, Foreign Trade and Investment and Foreign Affairs.
The fundraising campaign for the purchase of the syringes was launched on January 8, 2021, by the Canadian Network on Cuba and had the support of the 20 organizations that compose the solidarity movement, Cubans living in Canada, trade unions and friends of our island in the northern nation.
On behalf of the Cuban authorities present during the act of delivery of this important donation, Noemí Rabaza, first vice-president of ICAP thanked the generosity of the members of the Canadian Network, who had to overcome the restrictions and obstacles imposed by the U.S. blockade to make it possible. "This initiative - she acknowledged - was the result of the contribution of many people in Canada who identify with Cuba and are committed to respect and cordiality between our peoples".
The Cuban people are grateful for the noble and commendable gesture of the friends of Cuba in Canada, which will contribute to boost the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 and to mitigate the incidence of the pandemic in our country.
