With a combative and patriotic activity at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters, the Vincentian Government authorities, the Association of friendship San Vicente-Cuba, the Association of Vincentian graduates in Cuba and Cuban residents Association, commemorated the 55th anniversary of the first defeat of imperialism in America.
The attendees of the meeting welcomed the successful completion of the VII Congress of the CCP, they expressed their solidarity with the people of Ecuador, ravaged by a destructive earthquake and they paid tribute to the victims of the tragedy, which includes three members of the Cuban medical Brigade.
The participants strongly condemned the imperialistic onslaught against the progressive Governments of Latin America and its leaders, and reiterated their unchanged support for Venezuela, Bolivia, the Government of Dilma Rousseff and the former argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kichner.
Through a multimedia presentation, the Ambassador of Cuba, Vilma Reyes, carried out a detailed explanation of the historical circumstances and the sequence of events that preceded the invasion of Playa Giron and Playa Larga, as well as the development of the Cuban counteroffensive, which in the space of 68 hours of combat, delivered a crushing defeat to imperialism on the sands of Playa Giron.
In attendance of the activity were , Jomo Thomas, President of the Parliament of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Sir Luis Straker, Vice President of the Government and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Regional Integration, Daniel Montgomery, Minister of Housing, Informal Settlements and Physical Planning; Frederick Stephenson, Minister of National Mobilization, Social Development, Family, Gender, People with Disabilities and Youth Issues; René Baptiste, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OECS; Michael Browne, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of the Association of SVG/Cuba friendship, among others
The activity culminated with the adoption three statements issued, respectively, by the Association of friendship Saint Vincent-Cuba, by the Association of Cuban residents and the Cuban medical Brigade. The three documents support the resolutions of the VII Congress of the CCP, condemn the US blockade against Cuba and demand the return of the territory illegally occupied by the naval base in Guantánamo.
