The African Union reiterates its condemnation of the blockade against Cuba and demands the removal of Cuba from the unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

Accra, Ghana, 19 de febrero de 2023:- For the fifteenth consecutive time, the 37th Assembly of the African Union, composed of African Heads of State and Government, adopted a resolution condemning the continued illegal economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed on the Republic of Cuba by the United States of America. On this occasion, the African Union is also calling for the removal of Cuba from the unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

The text reaffirms its full support for the Resolution on this subject approved every year by the UN General Assembly and also regrets the measures implemented by the Government of the United States since November 9, 2017, which reinforce the blockade, and expresses its deep concern about the expansion of its extraterritorial nature.

The African Union also recognizes that the blockade is the main obstacle to Cuba's implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and shares this concern because of the importance that as a continental organization it attaches to the achievement of the objectives of that agenda.
