Ottawa, May 20, 2021.- The Ambassador of Cuba to Canada, Josefina Vidal, gave an online press interview to the Canadian media outlet People’s Voice, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Canada.
During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat referred to the current situation in Cuba, the challenges faced by the country due to the combined negative impact of the U.S. blockade and the COVID-19 pandemic, the strategies and measures adopted by the government to mitigate its effects, the progress in the development of the five vaccine candidates and the progress of the health intervention for the immunization of the population, as a result of which almost half a million Cubans have been vaccinated to date.
The Ambassador took the opportunity to highlight the invaluable support that Cuba has been receiving from the international solidarity movement in these difficult circumstances and particularly thanked the Canadian Network on Cuba, on behalf of the Cuban people, for the campaigns organized in recent months for the shipment to our country of almost 2 million syringes and needles to contribute to the immunization of the population against COVID-19, as well as other medical supplies to help in the fight against the pandemic.
Josefina Vidal also addressed the results of the 8thCongress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), the relations between Cuba and Canada, and the U.S. policy towards our country.
