Dublin, January 24, 2018. The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, received this morning at the official residence the Heads of accredited Diplomatic Missions, on the occasion of the traditional new year´s greetings.

Cuban Ambassador Hugo René Ramos Milanés, conveyed the greetings and best wishes for success and prosperity for the Head of State and the Irish people.

President Higgins in his address to the diplomatic community mentioned the challenges that diplomacy must face today and the negotiation efforts that must be deployed to solve wars and conflicts that in many regions have caused too many victims and displaced millions of people, causing them deep pain. He also referred to the necessary joint efforts to achieve a just cooperation among nations that channel the natural riches and human intelligence that absorb wars and nuclear weapons, towards the achievement of the sustainable development of the nations and the preservation of our planet facing the challenges of climate change.

After the speech, Ramos Milanes congratulated the President, stressing that peace, cooperation, sustainable development and the preservation of the planet are, among other issues of international news, cornerstones of Cuban foreign policy developed by our historical leader Fidel Castro Ruz, and ratified the will to continue developing bilateral relations.
