Ambassador of Cuba holds a meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the Namibian National Assembly.

Namibia, May 14th, 2021- In the framework of the Africa Day, Hon. Loide Kasingo, member of the Central Committee of SWAPO and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, accompanied by the Chief Whip of that political party in the legislative body, Hon. Hamunyera Hambyuka, received Sidenio Acosta Aday, Ambassador of Cuba to this African country.

Both parliamentary leaders, also members of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), agreed on the excellent state of bilateral relations, especially those developed between the National Assemblies of Cuba and Namibia. They reiterated the solidarity of their country towards Cuba and the condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.

For her part, Deputy Speaker Kasingo recalled the cooperation between the Namibian, Angolan and Cuban troops in the fight against the racist apartheid regime of South Africa.

Ambassador Acosta reported on the incidence of Covid-19 in Cuba and the status of the five Cuban vaccine candidates against that disease. Additionally, he explained the effects on the Cuban economy caused by the pandemic and the intensification of the US blockade.

The Namibian Parliament has two chambers: the National Assembly and the National Council. In both houses, SWAPO, the ruling party and former national liberation movement, has a majority. Deputy Speaker Kasingo has held that senior position in the National Assembly since 2010.
