The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro L. Despaigne González participated in the Solemn Vigil in honor of the late former President of Ghana, Flt. Lt. (Rtd) Jerry John Rawlings, which was organized by the Association of Ghanaian Graduates in Cuba (ESBECAN), and which was attended by the family of the Ghanaian leader, including the widow and children.
The speakers put forth the virtues of Rawlings in their words. The figure of the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, was also highlighted by his brotherhood relationship with the Ghanaian leader. Both were the forerunners of the project to prepare thousands of young Ghanaians in Cuban lands, who began arriving in Cuba in 1983.
The rejection of the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism was also expressed. The staff of the Cuban embassy participated fully in the tribute. (Cubaminrex / Embacuba Ghana)
