Ambassador of Cuba presents credentials to COMESA, Zambia

Lusaka, September 19, 2023. On this Tuesday afternoon, the Cuban ambassador to Zambia, Mrs. Marileydis Dueñas Morales, presented her credentials to Her Excellency Ms Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe, Secretary General to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

The ceremony held jointly with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Zambia, His Excellency Mr. Azim Yarakmedov who, like the Cuban Ambassador, was also accredited as Special Representative to COMESA. This activity was characterized by cordiality and friendship, both parties agreed on the possibility to continue promoting cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.

A representation of the executive members of this relevant regional organization also participated, while on the Cuban side the Ambassador was accompanied by the First Secretary J. Reinaldo Bacallao.

Since its inception on December 8, 1994, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), by means of a premeditated transition from its precursor- the Preferential Trade Area (PTA) of Eastern and Southern Africa, has been promoting cooperation economic and regional integration as a tool for accelerated development of the economy of this African region.
