Ambassador of Cuba presents Letters of Credence to the President of Bangladesh.

The President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Abdul Hamid, received on January 30 the Letters of Credence accrediting Alejandro Simancas Marin as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the government of that Asian country.

During the cordial meeting, President Abdul Hamid referred to the historical relations with Cuba and the positive bilateral relations. He recalled the meeting in 1973 between the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, considered the father of the nation of Bangladesh, in which both forged friendly relations. The President also stressed his country's willingness to promote ties with Cuba in different spheres of common interest.

The Cuban Ambassador expressed his appreciation for Bangladesh's position in demanding an end to the blockade and recalled the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations on January 25, 1973.

Afterward, the Cuban diplomat was also received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. AK Abdul Momen, with whom he also agreed on the interest in strengthening bilateral relations and identifying areas of cooperation. He delivered a congratulatory message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of relations.
