Ambassador of Cuba to St. Kitts and Nevis visits Acting Permanent Secretary of Health.
Basseterre, May 23, 2024- The Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health of this Federation, Curtis Martin, recently appointed to the position, received a visit by the ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, David Rivero Pérez, this morning at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health.
The meeting held in an affable mood, was favorable for the formal presentations by both parties, as well as for the approach to issues of common interest, with emphasis on cooperation in this sector and the performance of the Cuban Medical Brigade that works here.
Mr. Martin showed his bewilderment at the effects of the blockade policy against the Cuban people and expressed his admiration for the nobleness of this nation, which despite the restrictions it suffers, continues to offer its helping hand to all the countries that need it.
In this sense, he conveyed the gratitude of his government and reiterated the willingness to consolidate and continue to diversify existing ties.
St Kitts and Nevis and Cuba maintain a bond in the Health sector that dates back to 1996, a relationship that has been strengthened over these almost three decades. Today there are 16 Cuban cooperants in the Federation and more than thirty locals studying in Cuban universities.
The Chief Medical Officer of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Hazel Laws, with eight years in her position, was also present at the meeting, in which she made important clarifications based on her vast experience in these matters.
