Cuba and Syria confirm the excellent condition of bilateral relations
Damascus, November 4, 2018 - The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary appointed by the Republic of Cuba to the Syrian Arab Republic, Miguel Porto Parga, was received this morning by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moallem, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, to whom the Cuban diplomat handed the Style Copy of the Credential Letter that formalizes his status as representative of the Caribbean country.
Minister Al-Moallem and Ambassador Porto exchanged views on bilateral issues and the regional and international agenda, and agreed that the condition of bilateral relations, which are historical and fraternal, is excellent.
The Cuban representative thanked Syria for its sustained support to the successive resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly demanding the total and unconditional end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed six decades ago by the government of the United States of America against the Cuban people.
Ambassador Porto also recognized the victories of the Syrian people and government in liberating their territory from terrorism and stressed the importance of resistance and unity as key factors for the ultimate victory.
Chancellor Al-Moallem assured that Syria will continue to support Cuba in all multilateral and bilateral spheres, and reviewed the main issues of the current bilateral agenda.
The meeting, which took place in a cordial and frank atmosphere at the height of bilateral relations between both friendly countries, precedes the act of delivery, at a later time, by the Cuban diplomat to President Bashar Al-Assad, of the Letter of Credence that accredits him as Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba.
