Ambassador in Nairobi presents his credentials as Permanent Representative of Cuba to UNEP and UN-Habitat.

Nairobi, February 28. The Director-General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi, H.E. Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde, received today in a solemn audience the Cuban ambassador to Kenya, Ernesto Gómez Díaz, who presented his credentials as Permanent Representative of his country to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Program Of the United Nations for Human Settlements (UN-Habitat).

During the cordial meeting, the Cuban Ambassador reiterated his country's commitment to continue working with UNEP and UN-Habitat; as well as the need to defend the values ​​and principles contained in the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, especially those relating to the sovereign equality of States and non-interference in their internal affairs. He also referred to Cuba's efforts to contribute to peace and nuclear disarmament throughout the world.

For her part, the UN official recognized the prestige and authority of Cuba within the United Nations system and recalled the contributions of the Caribbean island in environmental, health and education, which can serve as an example for everyone. Furthermore, Ambassador Zewde reiterated her regret over the recent death of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
