Ambassador participates in solidarity activities in Manchester

Manchester, 16 November - The Cuban Ambassador to the UK, Ismara Vargas Walter, participated in an important event of solidarity with Cuba organised by UNISON North West at the historic Mechanics' Institute in Manchester. The event was attended by four UNISON regions, each presenting their projects in support of the Cuban people.

During her intervention in the morning session, the Ambassador expressed her deep gratitude to the British trade union movement for its constant support to Cuba, especially in a context of adversities imposed by the tightening of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade. In her speech, she highlighted the historic ties between the British trade union movement and Cuba, underlining the value of international solidarity as a tool for resistance and social justice.

The Ambassador's visit to Manchester began the previous evening, 15 November, with a warm welcome reception attended by UNISON members, trade union delegates and friends of Cuba. The event included traditional Cuban music as well as a sampling of local cuisine, creating an atmosphere conducive to exchange and the strengthening of ties between the two peoples.

The Ambassador's presence at these activities reinforces the commitment of the Cuban Embassy in the UK to work hand in hand with solidarity organisations and the trade union movement, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation on issues of common interest.

The event was an opportunity to highlight the positive impact of international collaboration and to reaffirm the call for an end to the blockade against Cuba, a cause that unites many voices in the UK and the world.

The Cuban Embassy is deeply grateful to UNISON North West and all participants for their support and dedication to the cause of Cuba.
