Applause for the Brave Cubans in White Coats

Officials from the Cuban Embassy in Zimbabwe gathered on this occasion to pay tribute to the Cuban white-coats heroes belonging to the "Henry Reeve" Medical Brigade, for their performance in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic in Cuba and the world. Our doctors once again place high on the Cuban medical potential in the international arena, as well as the legacy of internationalism and solidarity that we inherit from our heroes and martyrs.

The International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics "Henry Reeve" was established on September 19, 2005 in Havana by the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, with the aim of cooperating in immediately, with its specially trained personnel, in any country that suffers a catastrophe, hurricanes, floods or other natural phenomena, in addition to epidemics that constitute true natural and social disasters.

This Medical Brigade in August 2005 was formed to provide aid to the population affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. This offer of help from the Cuban Government was rejected by the Government of the United States. This brigade was named "Henry Reeve" Medical Force, in memory of that exceptional young American combatant who died fighting for the independence of Cuba.

A few days later, an organization that is unprecedented in the world is constituted by the Commander in Chief. On that occasion our Commander in Chief during the act of constitution expressed:

“We will demonstrate that there are answers to many of the tragedies on the planet. We will demonstrate that the human being can and must be better. We demonstrate the value of conscience and ethics. We offer lives. ”

Its fundamental work objectives are aimed at achieving an extensive territorial deployment in disaster areas, with the establishment of Comprehensive Campaign hospitals, capable of giving a broad response to the care needs of the affected population. The immediate epidemiological coverage by the Brigade's Comprehensive General Doctors is another of the contingent's working principles.

The Comprehensive Campaign Hospitals have all the equipment and qualified personnel necessary to have a surgical unit, an intensive care unit and advanced diagnostic services. Likewise, each deployed Hospital is the center of the promotion, education, prevention, cure and rehabilitation of the population of the disaster area.
