Canberra, October 5, 2022. The Australia-Cuba Friendship Society issued a statement on October 3 in support of the Cuban people and government following the damage caused by the Hurricane Ian.
The friends of solidarity emphasized the challenges Cuba has had to face in reference to complex issues such as the confrontation with the COVID-19 pandemic, the devastating fire in the Matanzas supertanker zone and the recent damages caused by Hurricane Ian. They also added the negative impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government on Cuba for more than 6 decades.
However, despite the difficulties, they highlighted the capacity of the Cuban people who, guided by the revolutionary principles that characterize them, continue to advocate for unity to face the current challenges.
They also recognized Cuba's preparedness to respond to the onslaught of nature and offered their solidarity and assistance in any possible way.
The Australia-Cuba Friendship Society concluded its statement by assuring that Cuba is not alone and can count on their support.
