Taking advantage of the common interest to advance in bilateral relations and the facilities of technology, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Bahamas and the ambassador of Cuba in that Caribbean country held a virtual working meeting with the goal of reviewing and promoting bilateral issues. Alejandro García took the opportunity to reiterate the appreciation of our Ministry of Foreing Relations for the call made by Prime Minister Hubert Minnis to end the blockade of the United States during the 75th session of the General Assembly last September. As part of the meeting, in which senior officials of the Bahamian Foreign Ministry also participated, specific aspects were addressed that, despite the current sanitary conditions and restrictions, may materialize to the benefit of different areas and sectors of interest to the two countries. Cooperation in matters of national security, in particular the fight against illegal activities at sea and transnational crime; drug trafficking and illegal emigration was one of the issues mentioned in the meeting. The search for better banking connections between the two countries was identified as one of the actions that could benefit trade, tourism, the resident Cuban community and better access for Bahamians to Cuban medical services. The potential participation of Cuban companies in actions related to the efforts of The Bahamas to recover from the effects of Hurricane Dorian were other aspects addressed in the virtual session.
