Nassau, January 15th, 2021. Nassau. January 15th, 2021. The Bahamian expert on Economy Kevin Alcena, a close friend of Cuba in this archipelago, described as absurd the recent designation of our country as a state sponsor of terrorism by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo. In an article published on the social network Medium, the academic stated that "there is no way to substantiate this statement nor is there any justification for it," adding that by making an "exhaustive examination of all the readily available factual information, there is no a legitimate mandate that coincides with this statement against Cuba”.
The decision to incorporate Cuba back into a list, which is not sustained by a mandate recognized to the United States from any international institution or organization, happens in the midst of a total discredit of the government and president of that country, and few days away of the transferring of the government command. In other line, Kevin Alcena points out that “we are faced with another futile attempt to disrupt bilateral relations between Cuba and the United States. The analysis brings clarity and allows anyone to draw their own conclusion that this type of labeling only creates political obstacles for no logical reason".
The infamous reincorporation of Cuba to that discredited and unilateral list has provoked the refusal of broad sectors of the International Community and within the United States. In concluding his remarks, the Bahamian scholar expresses that "the great republic of Cuba is the embodiment of an impressive success story and no element of intimidation can eclipse its courage."
