Birth of the Apostle commemorated in Namibia.

Namibia, January 27th, 2019- The 166th Anniversary of the Birth of our Apostle and National Hero, José Martí, was commemorated in Namibia with the presence of the Cuban ambassador, Sidenio Acosta, the Venezuelan ambassador, Omar Barretoran, the staff of our embassy, members of the Namibia Cuba Friendship Association, Cuban collaborators and residents.

The simple, but moving act began with the notes of our National Anthem, followed by the laying of a wreath by Doctors Aniuska Palacio and Evelio Bueno at the bust of the Apostle, located at the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission. Once the flowers were placed, those present kept a minute of silence in memory of the greatest of all Cubans. Likewise, Dr. Yanelys Ruiz declared the poem "Mi caballero", dedicated by José Martí to his son.

Later, Aldo Fuentes, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, who was in charge of the central words of the event, stressed the importance and validity of Marti's thought for Cuban patriots. The Cuban diplomat highlighted the presence of the Apostle's ideology in all the work of the Revolution, which under the guidance of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, put into practice the humanist, Latin Americanist, anti-imperialist and independence doctrine of Martí.

Likewise, in keeping with the National Hero's thoughts, those present condemned the imperialist aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and expressed their repudiation of the attempted coup d'etat orchestrated from Washington, in clear violation of international laws, the Charter of Nations United and with an open interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign country.

On the other hand, the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba was also repudiated by those present, who demanded the end of that criminal policy against the Island.

The ceremony was televised by the national network NBC.
