A Cuban delegation headed by the President of Grupo Empresarial Ganadero (GEGAN), Norberto Espinosa, developed a working visit to Denmark from 24-28 September, aimed at promoting in that country the opportunities of investment in the sector of pig farming on the Island. The delegation was also integrated by the Head of Department of Business and Collaboration of GEGAN, Jorge E. Blanco, and the Corporate Director of CORALSA, Ambrosio Ramos, with the support of the Cuban Embassy in Denmark, who carried out an intensive working program.
During the visit they had exchanges with Danish farmers and businessmen, with high level executives of the Danish Council of Agriculture and Food; the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU); the Danish Pig Academy, as well as several pig farms and other facilities linked to that sector. Espinosa, along with other members of the delegation, explained the current situation of pig farming in Cuba and the existing potentialities to develop foreign investment projects. These aspects were also reflected in a press interview given by the president of GEGAN to the newspaper of Danish farmers LandbrugsAvisen. In the framework of the meeting the delegation explained the effects caused by the economic blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba, which is the main obstacle for the economic and social development of the Cuban nation.
Likewise, the Danish entrepreneurs and pig farmers were invited to attend the International Fair of Havana FIHAV 2018, which will be held from October 29 to November 2, 2018, as well as the Farming Fair FIAGROP 2019, to be held on 16 to 24 March 2019.
The Danish side showed great interest in the exchanges that were carried out and appreciated the usefulness of the information provided. Denmark is globally known for its high specialization in the production of pigs and processing of pork meat, with an increasing productivity and environmental sustainability. (Embacuba Dinamarca)
